Geography
Ranni-Pazhavangadi Grama Panchayat is located in the Ranni Block of Ranni Taluk in Pathanamthitta district. Spanning an area of 53.38 square kilometers, this Grama Panchayat is divided into 17 wards. The panchayat is bordered by Manimala Panchayat of Kottayam district to the north; Vechoochira and Naranammoozhi panchayats, and the Karikulam Reserve Forest to the east; the Pamba River to the south; and Ranni Angadi Panchayat and the Ponthanpuzha Reserve Forest to the west.
Ranni Pazhavangadi Grama Panchayat is a region blessed with natural geography. The terrain consists of hills ranging from 50 meters to 600 meters above sea level, along with sloping lands and plains. This panchayat was part of Kollam district until 1982. With the formation of Pathanamthitta district, the panchayat was included in the newly formed taluk centered around Ranni.
Ranni-Pazhavangadi Panchayat is a purely agricultural region. It is a hilly village with a landscape full of hills and valleys, featuring slopes of over 60 percent. Ittiyappara Market, the largest market in Ranni Taluk, is located in this panchayat.
The residents of this panchayat are celebratory by nature. Church feasts, conventions, and temple festivals are grandly organized every year. The Pazhavangadikara region is a fertile land for folk arts. There used to be small groups systematically performing various ancient art forms in places like Karikulam, Chellakkad, Poozhikkunnu, Mothiravayal, Edamon, Makkappuzha, Neerattukavu, and Peruvayal. Pakkanaru Kali, Mudiyattu, Kakkarassi, Koladi, Villuppattu, and Parichamuttukali are the traditional art forms of this region.
